UNHCR Somalia Coordination Meeting on the Somalia

On 7th November, the UNHCR Somalia office held a Coordination Meeting on the Somalia Situation  at TradeMark Suits, Enaki Town, Nairobi.

Participants included UNHCR , IGAD, donors,  and Commissioners of Refugees from regional countries that host Somali refugees.

The objectives of the meeting were to review previous solutions to the Somali Refugee problem, Share experiences and identify new approaches.

Uganda's Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hon Hilary Onek was Chief Guest at the event.

In his remarks, he decried the escalating Refugee Crisis amidst dwindling financial support.
He decried the gross  human rights abuses meted on refugees from Sudan and DRC, and called for  improved  governance as a major solution to the refugee problem.

Commissioners of Refugees of Uganda,   Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti and Yemen shared also their experiences.

The meeting came up with several recommendations in a report to be shared later
